'No one's talking about confiscating your guns' - except Hillary Clinton

When it comes to guns, every single political observer knows precisely what the left wants. If they had their way, your 2nd Amendment rights would be eliminated, private firearm ownership would be a thing of the past, and they'd be able to lord over a nation of impotent, neutered, sheep. Of course, they never admit that.
Every member of the liberal machine, be they a member of the media or an actual politician, has one well-rehearsed answer about gun control: "No one's talking about confiscation. We just want common sense reforms." Note that they don't say they're not interested in confiscation - just that no one's "talking about it." Well, those were the good old days. Today, they're talking about it. At least, their Presidential frontrunner is. Hillary Clinton thinks that the Australian gun control model is "worth considering." As she said Friday:
VOTER: Back to handguns. Recently, Australia managed to get away, or take away tens of thousands, millions of handguns. In one year, they were all gone. Can we do that? If we can't, why can't we? HILLARY CLINTON: Australia is a good example, Canada is a good example, the U.K. is a good example. Why? Each of them have had mass killings. Australia had a huge mass killing about 20-25 years ago, Canada did as well, so did the U.K. In reaction, they passed much stricter gun laws.

In the Australian example, as I recall, that was a buyback program. The Australian government, as part of trying to clamp down on the availability of automatic weapons, offered a good price for buying hundreds of thousands of guns. Then, they basically clamped down, going forward, in terms of having more of a background check approach, more of a permitting approach, but they believe, and I think the evidence supports them, that by offering to buyback those guns, they were able to curtail the supply and set a different standard for gun purchases in the future.
Of course, Hillary fails to mention that the Australian "buyback program" was forced. There was no "offer" to sell your guns to the government. Basically this was a system of confiscation where you were ordered to hand over your guns and in return you received a few dollars as a pat on the head. There have been a pundits suggesting that maybe Hillary misspoke. Perhaps she's simply ignorant of the details behind Australian gun control. This is, to be blunt, a load of crap.
  • First, Hillary is supposedly 'the smartest woman in the world.' She's a former U.S. Secretary of State, and a former Senator. Are we really supposed to believe that she accomplished all of that - as a liberal Democrat - while somehow managing to know nothing about what her party considers the gun control gold standard?
  • Second, she's been beating the gun control drum for decades. Back in the '90s she was trying to eliminate firearm and ammunition purchases by advocating massive, punitive, tax penalties. Along with single-payer healthcare, this has long been one of her pet projects. There's simply no way she hasn't heard about Australia's confiscation program.
  • And finally, if she's actually managed to spend her entire life in politics - including two runs for the White House - without knowing about Australia's gun control scheme, she's so monumentally out of touch with the issue that she has no business seeking public office.
We're sure she'll spend the next few days trying to walk this back, but facts are facts. Hillary is a woman who has claimed that the Supreme Court has been wrong about firearm ownership being an individual right. Her latest claim isn't an error, and it's not just some ill-informed off the cuff moment. Hillary Clinton is a run-of-the-mill statist - nothing more - and she let the mask slip. At a time when the public support for handgun bans is at a historic low, maybe that's a good thing. Video via the Washington Free Beacon:
