FBI expands Clinton investigation - now looking at public corruption via Clinton Foundation 'donations'

We've all heard about the Hillary email scandal. The secret server, the private address, the (now over 1300) messages containing classified info, and the felonious orders to strip classifications are all well covered ground. ...And they also may just be the tip of the iceberg. According to a new report, the FBI has expanded its inquiry and is now investing the "pay for access" allegations that made news earlier this year. The story goes that substantive donations to Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea's "Clinton Foundation" would garner special acknowledgement or favors from the then Secretary of State. This might be shocking if we were talking about anyone other than the Clintons. As it is, well....

The FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of private email as secretary of state has expanded to look at whether the possible “intersection” of Clinton Foundation work and State Department business may have violated public corruption laws, three intelligence sources not authorized to speak on the record told Fox News. This track is in addition to the focus on classified material found on Clinton’s personal server. "The agents are investigating the possible intersection of Clinton Foundation donations, the dispensation of State Department contracts and whether regular processes were followed," one source said. The development follows press reports over the past year about the potential overlap of State Department and Clinton Foundation work, and questions over whether donors benefited from their contacts inside the administration.

Obviously, the big cheese at the DOJ is an Obama appointee and a staunch leftist. At first blush, you might assume that means Hillary will be protected and we'll never see and indictment. However, there may be a couple of reasons to suspect that's not the case.

First off, you have to remember there's no love lost between the Clintons and the Obamas. They may put on the smiles and sing Kumbaya in public, but President Obama usurped Hillary's "rightful" ascension to the throne back in '08. Bill and Hillary both took some cheap shots at Obama around the time Hillary's campaign ignited the birther movement, and many assume that Hillary's appointment as Secretary of State was a "keep your enemies close" move designed to placate a potentially vengeful Clinton machine. These people - Obama, Bill, and Hillary - are not folks who let water go under the bridge. They cling to their grudges like old men hold memories of their youth. It's not hard to imagine the Obama admin unleashing the hounds upon his old detractors. That's especially true since Hillary's campaign is already in trouble. Hillary would a lot be safer if she was still considered a 2016 lock. Unfortunately for her, that's not the case anymore. New polling shows ALL of the likely GOP nominees beating her, and with each passing day her fortunes only seem to get worse. Her party, just like the Republican Party, is fractured and the DNC elites are (at least privately) extremely nervous about her chances. They know she'll never willingly walk away so, if they think they have a better option, they'd probably be open to giving her a "nudge" out the door. On top of all that, you have forces within the DOJ (if not its leadership) who are interested in saving face and being relevant in the future. As the evidence against Hillary continues to pile up, it's getting hard and hard to envision a scenario where there are no charges filed - if only because the department wants to maintain some of its Obama-damaged credibility. To be clear, no one really knows what will happen. This is, after all, the Clintons. A preternatural ability to "get away with stuff" is hard-coded into their DNA. ...But the Democrat voices screaming "GOP witch hunt" certainly have gotten quiet lately.
