Four key differences in the thinking of Democrats and Republicans

There's more Republicans have to do than just market themselves better. A lot more. But on the day when President Obama will deliver his latest State of the Union address, we already know that it will be steeped in themes that reflect how Democrats view this nation.

The political class wages war on the working class

When you look around at some recent news, you realize something pretty troubling about the state of this nation right now: The political class is engaged in an all-out war against the working class.

No one cares about Obama's 'income inequality' nonsense

I told you yesterday that income inequality is simply one of the new buzzwords President Obama keeps using to keep the media chasing everything except ObamaCare. He’s been in the news about pot smoking and saying Americans should not have to wait more than half-an-hour to vote . . . where did that come from? It’s another one of those distractions to have the media talking about everything except ObamaCare.

GOP establishment: Quit attacking the Tea Party and deliver some results

The perpetual tension between the Republican Party establishment and the Tea Party - also known as the conservative base of the party - is the last thing we need at a time when liberal governance is in a disastrous free-fall and the nation is clearly open to a change back to a more conservative direction. Sadly, such internal recriminations are to some degree inevitable when you've done a lot of losing.

Nothing is ever done about government waste

We don't willingly give the government money, they take it from us. And instead of being good stewards with our money, they continue to waste it. Watch:

Two Men and a Truck explains how ObamaCare will hurt its growth

You've probably heard of Two Men and a Truck. Despite what it's light-hearted name suggests, Two Men and a Truck is a huge and growing company that provides moving services throughout the country. Each local organization is run as a franchise operation, which are really small businesses even though they operate under a very famous name.

HealthCare.gov: Michelle's friends out, Obama campaign donors in

President Obama always finds someone other than himself to blame when things go wrong, and of course he especially likes to blame private-sector corporations. So never mind that CGI Federal, whose senior executive Toni Townes-Whitley was a college classmate of Michelle Obama's, was hired by the Obama Administration to build HealthCare.gov. Nothing here is the White House's fault, ever, by definition, and now we learn that CGI Federal is being fired.

It's some people's intelligence that's in the deep freeze

The cold weather has caused common sense to freeze in Washington D.C. They can’t seem to change their ways. Maybe that’s why more than four-and-a-half years after the economic recovery began, seven out of 10 Americans consider the economy to be in poor shape. The average weekly new jobless claims in 2013 was 350,000, whereas new jobs were only 18,000, and 70 percent of those were part-time.

Oops! There's no way to add a newborn baby to your ObamaCare coverage

The government geniuses who decided they could run health insurance better than everyone else apparently overlooked the fact that circumstances in people’s lives sometimes change, and it becomes necessary to update your insurance information to reflect that.

The Tea Party is an attitude, and establishment Republicans can't quash it

The political dynamics as we head into 2014 seem ideal for Republicans. But we all know Republicans are experts at shooting themselves in the foot, largely because they seem intent on silencing the people who most believe in the ideals that are supposed to be those of the GOP.

Time for Democrats to pick another fight over unemployment benefits

We talked on Friday about how desperately Democrats want to change the subject to anything but ObamaCare, so it’s a pretty exciting time for them when unemployment benefits once again run out. That’s because the latest expiration of the program is yet the latest opportunity for them to bash Republicans who raise objections to once again extending it.

The ABCs of prosperity

(Editor's Note: The boss is taking a few days off, but you still get to enjoy his wisdom at the Best of Cain! This column was originally published February 11, 2013.) I talked at length on my radio show last week about the fact that President Obama’s economic growth record is abysmal compared with recent presidents who enacted low-tax, growth-friendly policies. From John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, we saw double-digit multiyear growth on a per-term basis as a result of policies that sought to unleash the private sector rather than empowering government.

Obama's problem: He doesn't need to be a dictator, he needs to be a leader (and he's not)

(Editor's note: This column was originally published March 11, 2013. We're re-running as one of several "Best of Cain" offerings while Herman takes a few days off.) Of all the things Barack Obama says, the most pathetic may be when he pleads with everyone to understand that he is “not a dictator.” He says this not for the purpose of exalting the separation of powers inherent in our system. No, he says it as an excuse for not accomplishing things.

We need fathers more than ever

(Editor's note: This was originally published on Fathers Day 2013.) It came to my attention recently that the White House web site posted a page with information about our nation’s founders, and it referred to these men as the “Founding Founders.”
