The video you’re about to see is more than 30 years old, and it’s only fair to Bernie Sanders that we point that out. But it’s also fair to ask: What about Bernie Sanders’s views has changed in 30 years? Not much that we can see.
It was pretty standard left-wing boilerplate back then to dismiss any problems people had with socialist governments abroad, especially if opposing said governments was a priority of the Reagan Administration.
You might recall that in the 1980s, the Reagan Administration gave massive support to the contras fighting the communist Sandinista regime in Nicaragua, over much derision from Democrats. And as for Fidel Castro’s Cuba, they were strategically and economically aligned with the Soviet Union – and it had only been 24 years since the Cuban Missile Crisis.
