As the world begins a second month of lockdown in response to the nightmare known as the coronavirus, it is essential to examine how this mess developed and how we return to some semblance of normalcy.
The world is forever changed with the advent of this pandemic. The casualties may include traditional forms of greetings such as handshakes and hugging as more people embrace the new standard of “social distancing.”
The United States has now become the world leader in a rather unfortunate category with the largest number of coronavirus victims. This is due to the vast expansion of tests that have been made available in the United States. In contrast, the reports out of China cannot be trusted.
As of Saturday March 28, there were 121,117 confirmed cases and 2,010 deaths associated with the coronavirus in the United States. The area with the fifth highest total of deaths in the country is New Orleans, which leads the nation in fatalities per capita.
Ever since the coronavirus became a household word and the American people started to worry about its tremendous impact, President Donald Trump and his task force have held daily media briefings. At these events, the President will usually make an announcement and then introduce members of his team who have important information to share with the American people. It is quite helpful to hear from these tireless public servants who are working day and night to save the lives of countless Americans.
In the 2016 election, a rare breed, a maverick political outsider and businessman, Donald Trump, ran for President of the United States as a Republican. He faced 16 establishment Republicans as challengers who had years of political experience and extensive party connections.
As usual, Democrats will stop at nothing to blame President Trump for almost everything. With the world anxiously watching the spread of the coronavirus, the Democrats have decided that President Trump is responsible. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are blaming the President for not allocating enough money to combat the spread of the disease.
It is time for another presidential election, so it is time for the media and their Democratic Party allies to begin their hysterical warnings about Russian “meddling.” This was their mantra in the 2016 election. It was their rationale for the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. In their warped view, the American people did not truly want to elect an independent businessman who was a non-politician. It only happened because of insidious Russian manipulation.
This week was dominated by the questions regarding the sentencing of political operative Roger Stone. Last January, he was subjected to a pre-dawn raid by federal officials carrying assault rifles. Somehow, CNN was informed about the raid and their cameras captured the dramatic footage of agents entering his home and arresting Stone. The former advisor to Presidents Nixon, Reagan and Trump was eventually charged and convicted of making false statements, obstruction of an official proceeding and witness tampering.
Presidential historians will note that the re-election of President Donald Trump was not secured in November of 2020, but nine months earlier in February. In a span of two days, Democrats displayed to the country why their party should not be given political power.
As the nation gets ready for a presidential election, the Democratic Party is in total turmoil. Their 2020 presidential candidates are not exciting voters. There is a very large field of candidates, but none of them seem able to defeat President Donald Trump in the upcoming general election.
Among the candidates, no one has the charisma of Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. While each of the major candidates has supporters and is raising millions of dollars, the only candidate to create true devotion is U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), practically an octogenarian.
In our country, the average American is a law-abiding person who works hard to pay his or her debts, including taxes and student loans. For this type of person, government bailouts are unnecessary. Sadly, presidential candidates do not seem to be interested in appealing to this type of voter.
U.S. Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) created a firestorm of controversy this week when she called CNN reporter Manu Raju “a liberal hack.” Raju was trying to interview McSally about the upcoming impeachment trial, but the Arizona Senator told him that “I’m not talking to you.”
McSally is a former fighter pilot who certainly knows how to hit targets. In this regard, her comments hit the media target perfectly and were especially appropriate.
The American people no longer trust what they hear from the media and their government. Ever since his first campaign started in 2015, President Donald Trump has railed against his political opponents within the government and has often warned the American people not to trust the "Fake News" media. These warnings seem to have been heeded especially in the case of the death of disgraced financier and alleged pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The Democratic Party of 2020 bears little resemblance to the lifelong political home of former President Harry Truman. The President known for his “Give ‘Em Hell” approach and his famous “The Buck Stops Here” motto would be unfamiliar with a party that is moving at light speed to the far left.
As 2019 ends, the positive economic news regularly astounds financial experts. The stock market continues to reach new highs, while unemployment is at an historic low level. Consumer confidence is soaring, and Americans spent record amounts for the Christmas season.
With the impeachment of President Donald Trump, the U.S. House of Representatives sent a clear message to the American people. Despite the many problems in our country, the top concern for House Democrats is to punish President Trump. His true “crime” is being an outsider, an advocate of “America First” policies and a President committed to “draining the swamp” in Washington D.C. His values make President Trump the enemy of the Deep State, the media, the Democrats and their allies in Hollywood.
Once again, TIME has chosen a reliably liberal recipient to be “Person of the Year.” The winner is 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who has spent the past year appearing at rallies and giving speeches railing about the dangers of fossil fuels. At a 2018 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poland, Thunberg claimed not to “care about being popular. I care about climate justice and the living planet."
It was bad enough for House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) to subpoena the phone records of businessman Lev Parnas and President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani and other political opponents, but when he released them in his impeachment report it was a stunning abuse of power. In the view of columnist Kimberly Strassel, Schiff’s move “trampled law and responsibility…it was a disgraceful breach of ethical and legal propriety.”
Since the beginning of the Ringside Politics TV and radio shows, we have enjoyed an annual Thanksgiving tradition of awarding our “Turkey of the Year” to recognize individuals who distinguished themselves in a particularly foolish way. It seems appropriate since turkeys are commonly regarded as one of the most dim-witted animals on the planet.
