Thousands come out to protest unilateral bid for Palestinian statehood

TORONTO, A standing-room only crowd of over 3000 people packed Canada Christian College to capacity to protest the Arab League’s plan to unilaterally divide Israel based on pre-1967 borders in order to create a Palestinian state with no security guarantees whatsoever for Israel. The “Stand With Israel” rally was attended by members of Jewish and Christian communities from across the Golden Horseshoe and southern Ontario, as well as religious leaders and politicians who came together to offer prayers and messages of encouragement to Israel as its future hangs in the balance pending this week’s events at the United Nations General Assembly.

Christians and Jews rally to oppose unilateral plan to divide Israel

TORONTO, 16 September 2011: B’nai Brith Canada and Christians United for Israel will bring Jews and Christians together this Sunday, September 18th at 7:00pm at Canada Christian College in Toronto for a rally to protest the Arab League’s plan to divide Israel based on pre-1967 borders in order to create a Palestinian state. The “Stand With Israel” rally will feature talks from Jewish and Christian leaders and a keynote address by the Honourable Jason Kenney, Federal Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. Christians of diverse backgrounds from churches right across Ontario will join with members of the Jewish community, united in their support for Israel.

B’nai Brith Canada working with Police to solve swastika defacement spree across Toronto

TORONTO: B’nai Brith Canada has urged greater vigilance leading up to the Jewish Fast Day of Tisha B’Av next week (Tuesday, August 9, 2011), a day set aside to mourn the destruction of the Jewish Temples in Jerusalem. This comes following reports of three incidents of vandalism in the Toronto area during the past three days. In these incidents vandals used stencils to spraypaint black and red swastikas in visible locations. The latest incident occurred at the Beth Tikvah Synagogue on Bayview Avenue where a swastika and the words “Islam will rule” were spraypainted near the school entrance late yesterday afternoon in broad daylight.

Government move on suspected war criminals issue welcomed as long overdue

TORONTO, B’nai Brith Canada has applauded the Government’s announcement that it is actively seeking 30 individuals who face removal for complicity in violating human or international rights under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act, or under international law. Similarly, the Jewish human rights organization has welcomed the move by the Canadian Government to revoke the citizenship of 1,800 individuals who have been found to have obtained citizenship by fraudulent means, a stratagem often employed in the past by suspected war criminals.

Audit of 2010 shows anti-Jewish hatred continues to rise in Canada

TORONTO, The League for Human Rights of B'nai Brith Canada has released its most recent Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, an authoritative study of patterns of prejudice released each year in this country. In total, 1,306 incidents were reported to the League in 2010, representing a 3.3% increase over the 2009 data, and a more than four-fold increase over the past ten years. “Incidents were reported across the country in synagogues, schools, playgrounds, on campus, at street rallies, sporting events, workplaces, even reaching people’s own homes,” said Frank Dimant, CEO of B’nai Brith Canada. “This kind of hatred is infectious and insidious. It destroys the very fabric of Canada’s multicultural society, and those that would deny its gravity are part of the problem, not the solution.

B’nai Brith Canada – Quebec has applauded Liberal Quebec MNA Lawrence Bergman’s condemnation of the antisemitic postings on the pro-sovereignty website vigile.net. The Honourable Lawrence Bergman put forth a motion last week denouncing the comments and calling on the Parti Québécois (PQ) members who donated to the site to stop their financial contributions.
