B’nai Brith condemns desecration of Jewish cemetery in Victoria as year closes

TORONTO, – B'nai Brith Canada has condemned the desecration of the Jewish cemetery in Victoria, British Columbia that took place this last weekend while Canadians celebrated the new year. Five grave-sites were defaced with swastikas and other symbols of hatred. Congregation Emanu-El is housed in a heritage building and is Canada's oldest continuously operating synagogue. The cemetery associated with this proud congregation opened in the 1860's and was the province's first Jewish cemetery.

B’nai Brith honours veterans and current servicemen and women on Remembrance Day

TORONTO, – On the eve of Remembrance Day, B’nai Brith Canada has announced that it will honour veterans and current servicemen and women by expanding the target audience of its well-established Operation Thank You Project. This is a national campaign to encourage Canadians – particularly students – to show support and solidarity for our troops by writing letters to Canadian military personnel serving overseas. The Operation Thank You curriculum guide, designed for students of all ages, will now be offered in French as well as English. This guide underscores the importance of patriotism and civic responsibility, and is a perfect companion resource for Canadian history, geography, and social sciences courses.

B’naiBrith CANADA commends Gov’t of Canada for taking lead in fight against antisemitism

TORONTO, – B’nai Brith Canada has praised the continued leadership shown by the Government of Canada following the signing of the Ottawa Protocol on Combating Antisemitism by Ministers Jason Kenney and John Baird. The Protocol, which emanated from an international gathering of parliamentarians hosted by Canada last year, reaffirmed the London Declaration on Combating Antisemitism as a template for fighting against anti-Jewish prejudice. The Protocol reaffirmed a commitment to institute tangible measures to combat antisemitism in all its forms, from the classic anti-Jewish blood libels of medieval times to newer manifestations of this age-old hatred, which are now masked in the language of anti-Zionism.
