Audit of 2010 shows anti-Jewish hatred continues to rise in Canada

TORONTO, The League for Human Rights of B'nai Brith Canada has released its most recent Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, an authoritative study of patterns of prejudice released each year in this country. In total, 1,306 incidents were reported to the League in 2010, representing a 3.3% increase over the 2009 data, and a more than four-fold increase over the past ten years. “Incidents were reported across the country in synagogues, schools, playgrounds, on campus, at street rallies, sporting events, workplaces, even reaching people’s own homes,” said Frank Dimant, CEO of B’nai Brith Canada. “This kind of hatred is infectious and insidious. It destroys the very fabric of Canada’s multicultural society, and those that would deny its gravity are part of the problem, not the solution.

B’nai Brith applauds Liberal Quebec MNA Lawrence Bergman’s condemnation of vigile.net

B’nai Brith Canada – Quebec has applauded Liberal Quebec MNA Lawrence Bergman’s condemnation of the antisemitic postings on the pro-sovereignty website vigile.net. The Honourable Lawrence Bergman put forth a motion last week denouncing the comments and calling on the Parti Québécois (PQ) members who donated to the site to stop their financial contributions.

B’nai Brith Canada demands Facebook remove incitement to violence messaging

In light of the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East, including the brutal slaughter of the Fogel family in Itamar and the terrorist bus bombing in Jerusalem, B’nai Brith Canada has demanded that the social network conglomerate Facebook move immediately to deal with complaints from B’Nai Brith and others to remove pages on its site that contain blatant expressions of hatred and calls for violence against the Jewish State and its residents.

B’nai Brith Canada-Quebec welcomes new directive for taxi inspectors

MONTREAL, March 25, 2011 - B’nai Brith Canada-Quebec welcomes the out-of-court settlement between Montreal cab driver Arieh Perecowicz and municipal authorities regarding religious objects in a taxi. The deal reportedly includes specific written acknowledgment by the chief of the Montreal Taxi Bureau that drivers’ religious objects are permissible inside their cabs, as long as these objects do not constitute a safety hazard or proselytizing.

Quebec Region urges police to investigate anti-Jewish attacks as hate-motivated crimes

MONTREAL, January 17, 2011 - B’nai Brith Canada-Quebec is concerned about the series of apparently orchestrated attacks which occurred over the weekend in Cote Saint Luc and Hampstead, targeting synagogues, a Jewish school and a daycare. The organization is urging police to investigate them as hate-motivated crimes.

TORONTO, December 3, 2010 – B’nai Brith Canada has called on the Canadian Government to announce its plans for relief measures for families of victims and survivors of the massive fire currently still raging in Northern Israel. Reports of assistance to the Jewish State of much-needed fire-fighting equipment, materials and personnel have already come from countries across the globe, including Cyprus, Britain, United States, Russia, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, France, Croatia, Spain, Azerbaijan and Romania.
