Yesterday the debate schedules leading up to the October 21 Canadian Federal Election were announced. In addition to when, the names of the moderators of the debates have also been released. And it’s not a pretty picture. (CBC, Aug. 20)
So said some of the demonstrators at a protest in front of the legislative buildings. Under the previous Liberal government, Ontario became the largest indebted sub-sovereign entity IN THE WORLD. Doug Ford and the PC Party swept to power on the promise to reduce spending and lower or eliminate taxes, especially the job killing cap and trade imposed to save the world from climate change and make friends of the Liberal Party rich along the way.
After Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Party became involved in the scandal known as LavScam, much of the mainstream media turned on their one time golden boy who, until recently, could do no wrong. The featuring the PM in a negative light increased after former AG Jody Wilson-Raybould testified before the Justice Committee. It was difficult for even the most ardent Justin-lover to conclude JRW was lying when her testimony about political interference conflicted with statements made by Trudeau.
Yesterday Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s principal secretary, Gerald Butts, resigned. Currently the Liberal government is involved in its worst scandal yet, being accused of trying to get then Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould not to proceed with criminal charges against SNC Lavalin, a company that contributes big time to the Liberal Party of Canada.

It’s about time we definitively decide which politician has the fewest functioning brain cells. It comes down to an epic battle between Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Sorry Americans; I know you like to finish first in everything but in this contest you lose.
As I wrote in an earlier article, new laws concerning drinking and driving came into effect in Canada on Dec. 18. As well as increased penalties, cops no longer have to have a “reasonable suspicion” that a driver has been drinking before demanding that driver provide suitable breath samples. As well, a police officer can demand someone provide breath samples if that person has driven anytime within the previous two hours. If the demand is made to a person drinking at home or in a bar and that person blows over the legal limit, he or she can be charged. It is up to them to prove that they were not impaired when they last drove.
The country has been tending towards a police state for some time. Nowhere are the losses of individual rights accepted by so many people as when these rights are taken away in order to combat drinking and driving. The new amendments to the Criminal Code that came into effect on Dec. 18, are not only draconian but some of the provisions border on the absurd. While some in the media have addressed the fact these amendments infringe upon peoples’ rights, little has been said about whether or not these changes to the law will be effective.
It’s no secret Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has come under heavy criticism lately. His popularity began to tank when he went on his disastrous trip to India and, with his constant wardrobe changes, showed the entire world what a fool he is.
A couple of weeks ago, CPC MP Maxime Bernier held a press conference hours before the party’s 2018 convention was to begin in Halifax. Bernier not only announced he was quitting the party but he was going to start his own.
No, it’s not the progressives. Many on the left are true cop-haters from the get go. A prime example of how the left detest police (unless they become victims of a crime and squeal like the cowards they are) occurred during the recent Ontario election campaign. Gurrant Singh, brother of federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, was a star candidate for the NDP. It was revealed he once carried a sign in a demonstration that read “F**K the POLICE.” Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath saw nothing wrong with that. Neither did the rest of her radical caucus.
An Angus Reid poll released Friday shows about two thirds of Canadians feel the influx of illegal border crossers amounts to a crisis. These two thirds include people who voted NDP and Liberal in the 2015 general election. As the Liberal government is fond of noting, anyone who opposes these people walking into Canada from the United States is “alt right” and “un-Canadian.”
When campaigning for the leadership of the Ontario Progressive Party and then during the provincial election campaign, Ford spent a lot of time saying he was not Donald Trump. True, they are two different people. But politically speaking, the premier and his late brother Rob were Trump years before Trump was Trump.
As it is in other places, most newsworthy events that take place in Canada are of little interest to those outside the country or even beyond the local area where the occurrence took place. There are exceptions of course; since his election in 2015, Justin Trudeau has received a lot of coverage in the international media. At first, these news outlets fawned over the little narcissist, portraying him as the new Obama. After his disastrous trip to India where he and his family spent most of their time changing their clothes, Trudeau became an international laughing stock.
On June 29, Douglas Robert Ford Jr. was sworn in as Ontario’s 26th premier. After 15 years of disastrous Liberal Party rule, Ford won a majority government based upon his promises to undo many of the terrible policies that saw the once mighty economic engine of Canada become a have-not province and an economic train wreck that saw many Ontarians forced to choose between heating and eating.
Nominations of Liberal candidates will begin on Wednesday, a sure indication the Liberals are preparing for a possible early election

Actor Robert De Niro was in Toronto Monday in front of what will become his Nobu Restaurant, Hotel and Residences in the city’s trendy Entertainment District. De Niro’s visit comes one day after the actor’s rant at the Tony Awards where he said, “First I want to say, F**k Trump. It’s no longer ‘down with Trump, it’s f**k Trump.’”
As the Ontario election campaign enters its final two weeks, the PCs are dropping in support while that of the NDP is increasing. The majority of new support for the socialists comes from Liberal voters realizing the almost certain death of their usual party of choice. Some polls predict the governing Liberals will end up losing official party status.
It was a horrific incident that made news around the world. Last Friday a bus carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team crashed with a tractor trailer at the intersection of two Saskatchewan highways. Currently the death toll stands at 16; the female trainer, the coach of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League team, two members of the media travelling to cover the playoff game and 12 young players.
Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne seems to be in panic mode these days. She and her Liberal Party are low in the polls, occasionally dipping into “Elvis territory.” In other words the percentage of people willing to support the Liberals is about the same as those who think the King of Rock and Roll is still alive.
