The more I think about it, the more convinced I become that only a president with this little regard for manners could have done what Donald Trump is doing – and needs to be doing.
He’s right about the swamp. He’s right about the Deep State. He’s right about the political class. It’s a largely bipartisan cabal of self-serving poseurs.

When labor is in high demand and short supply, as is the case right now, it’s only a matter of time before wages rise. Ah, the “fact check” genre of journalism. Legacy journalists love it because it allows them to appear all about “facts” while actually giving them a platform to editorialize.
The classic journalism fact-checker used to check things like the spelling of names, the correctness of addresses and dates – you know, actual objective facts.
I’ve been writing this for many years, and often I catch heat for it because people think I’m saying we should “forget” 9/11.
I’m not saying that at all. But for a long time – I think the first time I wrote it was all the way back in 2003 – I’ve believed the solemn, somber ceremonies every September 11 represented exactly the wrong spirit.
I’m sympathetic as ever with his frustration over the DOJ’s lack of interest in pursuing and prosecuting illegal leaks, especially in a case like this when the evidence that it was going on is plain as day and in the words of those who were clearly and obviously doing it. If you don’t pursue a case against people like that, why don’t you just go ahead and announce that you’ve taken the liberty of ignoring all laws you don’t feel like enforcing?
With as much controversy as has surrounded the national anthem in recent times, it’s a real treat to be able to share a story about it that’s pure joy and brought happiness to everyone connected to it.
I have a story like that for you, and I wouldn’t want to deprive you of it.
This actually doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s what the New York Times does.
There are very delicate matters that have to be handled quietly and behind the scenes – important matters that could impact the freedom and even survival of an entire nation of people deprived of freedom and of their basic needs. If you’re going to change such a situation for the better, the planning must necessarily be undertaken in secret.

Nike is supposed to be a brilliant marketing organization, even better at branding than it is at selling shoes and apparel. That’s why its fans had a ready response to those who wondered why Nike would want to alienate half the country by making Colin Kaepernick the face of its new Just Do It campaign.
When the U.S. economy surges and a Democrat is in the White House, the media usually tells us it’s because Democrats are better at “managing the economy” than Republicans.
Of course, Republicans understand (at least some do) that it’s not the job of politicians to “manage the economy,” and the fact that reporters think it is represents evidence of their ideological bias. But I’m getting off track.
The left is in trouble now.
Every month we see job growth near or above 200,000 – which represents a pretty decent margin above the replacement rate of about 140,000 – it becomes harder for the Democrats/media/left to claim the economy isn’t really helping workers.
I have no idea if the irony is lost on him, or if he’s fully aware of it. But as much as Ben Sasse is scandalized by Donald Trump’s behavior and style, he seems strangely aligned with Trump on the ways Washington has gotten off track and how it puts the republic in peril.
It happened early in the morning. At the gym. It was a fairly ordinary conversation, the kind you engage in while you work out.

Good news for America’s police officers: There are apparently still some Americans who appreciate the work you do, and don’t appreciate idiot athletes slandering you as racist murderers.
Oh, they also don’t appreciate consumer products companies who decide to shove politics down their throats when all they want to do is buy shoes.
He’s 75 years old, so this doesn’t sound like a long-term solution.
But for now, it’s a 51st Republican vote for Brett Kavanaugh and maybe for some more tax relief before the end of the session.
No, I don’t think this is an entirely accurate reflection of where the public is. But I also don’t think it should be lightly dismissed.
Sometimes it makes sense to compromise in politics. Sometimes a deal is a good deal and you should take it, because the country will benefit from it.
And one of the best examples in recent memory is a 2015 deal between the Republican Congress and Barack Obama concerning oil exports and green energy subsidies.
